Jonathan is an Associate Architect who has been with DunnHillam since 2009 and has played a vital role in the development and growth of the practice. Jonathan has a background in the building and making of things: he is a Licensed Builder with 20 plus years building projects for some of Australia’s best known architectural practices, as well as making joinery and furniture.

Following Australia winning the Americas Cup in 1983, Jonathan spent 5 years working for renowned naval architect, Ben Lexcen, during which time he was production manager in the business.  This background in building and experience in the production of cutting edge racing yachts provides Jonathan with a unique skill set, he is a highly accomplished architect and has expertise in detailed design, documentation and construction.

Jonathan has held part-time teaching roles in Architecture in both design and construction, at Sydney University and the University of New South Wales, including 15 years teaching with Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin in the Regional studio at UNSW.

While Jonathan’s expertise in complex design and construction problem solving, innovative building construction and sustainable design means he has contributed to almost every project at DunnHillam and has played a key role in the delivery of projects such as the Australian Opal Centre, The Gunnery, Gunnedah Koala Sanctuary and Sydney Dance Company.

Away from the studio Jonathan is mostly to be found reading (voraciously) and sailing, very fast.
